My every day makeup

7 Oct
Hello hello!

After the excitement of yesterday I’ve come back down to more steady ground. Kind of. It’s a bit of a mess trying to get this all finalised. I guess it’s not just like we are buying a pair of shoes. It’s a little but bigger than that.

I thought I would share my everyday makeup routine with you all because I love seeing everyone else do their stuff. As I’m still very novice to all of this, I don’t actually have any brushes or fancy tools. I have my fingers and toilet paper to clean up any of the messes. I am going to do a but of research into brushes and see what I can afford 🙂

Every morning I shower, use my Olay cleanser that I mentioned in an . I tone with my Nateo Young toner and moisturise with My tinted SPF15 Dove moisturiser. I don’t use concealer or foundation unless I am going somewhere a bit special – the tint in the moisturiser evens out my skin tone enough and helps dull my redness. Once all that slightly boring stuff is done I get onto the makeup.

I find that greens and browns and colours on the darker side of the spectrum work best with my skin tone. I found this little cheeky pallet for $3 from a cheapy shop when I was in desperate need of something a bit new. I’m not super picky when it comes to brand, as long as it does what it is supposed to, that is my main priority.

20131007-175958.jpg
So I generally start off with number 1 on this pallet which is an army green sort of colour in the outer corner of my lid. I usually use my index finger to work it into the crease.
Then I get number 2 and work it in the middle third of my lid. I blend it in with the outer corner.
Once it move onto number three a wipe it across my eye from the inner corner to just before the end of the outer corner.
Last, I use number 4 right in the inner part of my eye so it gets a little bit of gold on the top and under my eye. I use my pinky finger for this one.

After I do my eyeshadow I go onto the liquid eyeliner. The skill in which I recently mastered! Yay! If I can get it super thin on my upper lash line, that is how it stays. If I happen to flinch and my brush moves a little then my line is a bit thicker. Today it was a little thicker, I had a super crazy urge to sneeze.

20131007-180754.jpg
Once I’m happy with my liquid eyeliner I move onto pencil liner. Once upon a time I would just use black eyeshadow on my lower water line but I moved on from that stage of my life. Also, it’s kind of hard to do the upper water line with powder. I am also at a stage where I like to only line a third of my lower water line. So that is my next step…

20131007-182257.jpg
I line the lower water line about a third of the way across and also just under the water line. Once I do that I smudge the liner a little bit with my ring finger. I line the upper water line the whole way across.

So the process is nearly over. I already have quite long eye lashes but I like to define them a little. I don’t curl or anything, I just whack a little bit of mascara on. One thing I do with mascara is that I start right from the base of my lash, it fills in any of the gaps my liner missed.

20131007-183058.jpg
Once this is all done I add a little bit of 5 from the eyeshadow pallet underneath my eyebrow, down the middle of my nose and the little bit in the middle of my upper lip. I don’t do this every day though, maybe once or twice a week.
My finishing touch is my new favorite gloss, Apocalips in Celestial. It is such a pretty colour.

20131007-183658.jpg

So that is it! It takes me around 5 minutes to do this in the morning before work or uni. I find that by applying my moisturiser all over my face and finishing on my eyes, it works almost like a base. It doesn’t crease or fade that much 🙂

Okay, so that is it for today.

I totally forgot to add the final look on me. Oops! Lucky I don’t have a million followers who would notice 🙂

We bought a house!

6 Oct
Hello hello,

Okay, so we kind of did. We are just needing a building inspection to come out all hunky dory and it’s ours!

I’m excited because we will finally be able to do whatever we want to it! I’m already super excited to start using ideas from my Pinterest board.

I honestly never thought this was going to happen. I could squeal with joy!

My nail polish woes

2 Oct
Hello hello!

I am 100% completely obsessed with doing my nails. James (my fiancé) thinks they’re going to fall off but what does he know? I can’t help it, if I see a colour I like and it’s the right price, it will be mine within the hour.

My only problem is, I am very impatient. I always manage to smudge my nail polish when I’m waiting for it to dry. So I did a little research to see what worked the best.

1. Spraying your nails with canola oil
I was seeing it everywhere on Pinterest for a while. “Just spray your nails with Pam” and they will dry. I don’t quite know what Pam is but I am guessing it is basically just canola oil spray. So I tried it. Tip. Don’t use it with glitter nail polish. I don’t know that it dries the nails so much as makes them a bit more slick giving the effect of being dry. I am not a fan of this technique.

2. Ice cold water
The idea is right that you’re basically making it go from liquid to ice therefore drying it, but unless you are super human, holding your fingers in super ice cold water is just plain painful. I couldn’t physically hold them in the water long enough for them to dry.

3. Running cold water over your nails
This does nothing. NOTHING.

The only tip I have found useful is when you smudge your nails and they’re still a bit wet (but not freshly wet..) lick your nail to push that little smudgey sucker down. It doesn’t remove it completely but it does make a huge difference. I know it sounds gross, but it works. Just please don’t do it straight after, give it a minute to settle a little more.

I have seen these freeze dry nail dropper things, I’m pretty sure OPI have one and so do Sally Hansen. Maybe I’ll have to try that next. What do you think? Do they work?

Until then, I’m just going to have to learn to be patient. I mean how pretty do these look? My new favourite colour – Covergirl Outlast stay brilliant colour 145 Lav-endure.

Ps. Yes that is my engagement ring and yes, it is stunning!

Can I do orange?

30 Sep
Hello hello!

Today whilst I walked around the tempting beauty isles I pondered the question as to whether I could wear orange?

I don’t have orange clothes, nor do I have orange shoes. I have an eye shadow that is more a peach than it is orange yet orange is one of my favourite colours.

What dictates someone being able to wear orange? I’m not sure. I spotted a gorgeous lipstick by innoxa (who I only discovered today) in Tangerine for $14.95 and then noticed a shelve over you could get the lipstick and matching nail polish for $14.95 together.

Innoxa

Go priceline! So I jumped. Why not?

Do I look cross eyed in this photo?

What do you think? I’m not sure I could pull it off as an every day look but definitely an out in the sun type look.

Are there any shades of orange you think I should try? Help me!

Pay Day Small Haul

25 Sep
Hello hello!

Pay day has to be my most and least favourite day of the week. It’s a yay because I get money, it’s a not yay because it makes me realise I need more.

Whatever the case, it means I can spend my set aside money on stuff.

Something important I needed to buy as previously mentioned was a new cleanser. I think my old cleanser was actually making my skin oily. I don’t usually have that oily of a face… It worried me. So, I bought Olay’s foaming face wash for combination/oily skin. I hope it works okay?

I also realised the day of posting my Skincare Routine post, my moisturiser vanished. Into thin air. It’s gone. Forever.
So I bought a new moisturiser 🙂
Considering it is coming up to Spring here in Melbourne, I decided a bit of sunscreen protection could help. I also thought it might be nice to try a tinted moisturiser. Look what I found. A tinted ‘beige’ SPF 15 moisturiser. It’s like my original moisturiser was giving me a sign. Clever thing.

20130926-001630.jpg

I also managed to pick up this cute necklace for $1, some cute little studs for $2 and my new bag for $20. I change bags so often that the cheap ones do me well. How could you not go for this bag? Look it in the eyes and say you don’t love it. That’s right, you can’t.

I finally mastered eyeliner

23 Sep
Hello hello!

Okay, so maybe I didn’t fully master all that is eyeliner but I managed to put one thin line of liquid eyeliner on top of my lid.

It doesn’t sound like much, but trust me when I say it’s been a long time coming for me. I’m not naturally that coordinated and my eyes constantly jerk around like the little annoying jerks they are.

I tried with my eye closed, pulled out on the edges, I even tried the ‘no fear’ approach of just one solid line but I just couldn’t make the damn thing work.

So after watching enough of the ladies on YouTube put on their eyeliner I noticed that their eye was still slightly open. “That’s rediculous” I said to myself “you can’t possibly put eyeliner on the top of your lid with your eye open!” So why does EVERYONE do it?

So I experimented.. And look at that thin lined sucker.

I feel like I need a first place ribbon. Or at least multiple good try ribbons for my efforts previously.

Next on the I will master list will have to be my eye brows. They are quite unruly and thick and I don’t particularly like them all that much, but maybe if I could master eye brown pencil, I might like them that little bit more.

Just one more look at my eyes!

And yes, I have squinty photo eye disease. I don’t know why.

My favourite ladies

23 Sep
Hello hello!

Currently I am sitting in the silent study area of my university library and for some reason I’m listening to Macy Gray. It is, in my opinion, the best place on university grounds to think. So,in my thinking-ness (I promise I actually learn here..) I felt like sharing a few of my beauty guru favourites.

On my ever evolving journey to beauty guru-ness, I turn to these wonderful ladies to learn the tricks, secrets and gain an insight into their product knowledge. Also, you will notice they are all on YouTube. I find YouTube 100% addicting. I quit Facebook a while ago and moved my addiction to constructive social media like YouTube and Pinterest where I actually learn stuff!

Makeup Gurus

Zoella is an adorable Brit who makes me quite happy to watch! Her makeup looks are very achievable and very natural. Also, her hair – I wish my hair was that pretty!

Sprinkleofglitter.. There is something about these lovely British folk that I’m totally in love with. They’re unknowingly hilarious and have some of the best taste in makeup. She’s bright and colourful and her little girl is so damn cute!

Ilovemakeup – these guys are new to the game and I’m already obsessed. Not only do they have dailygrace but they have awesome new tips and tricks and great ways of showing them.

These are only a couple of the many people I use for inspiration but they are my main three 🙂

Who inspires you? I’m always looking for new people to beauty stalk.

Skincare Routine

22 Sep
Hello hello!

According to all the timeline pictures I have seen for weddings, now is the time I’m suppose to go hard into my Skincare routine. My only problem with this is that I’m ridiculous at remembering to do things daily.

Take this blog for example, I am hoping this will teach me routine – to make sure I post something as often as I can! Tablets are the worst, I think I have only ever once successfully taken the full course of antibiotics and by successfully I mean, I forgot to take them some days.. Maybe the motivation of not having a giant pimple smack bang in the middle of my forehead on my wedding day will be a strong enough cause to remember to keep my face clean daily. I hope so.

A little while ago I went to Myer to try and find a good Skincare range and ended up with Natio‘s young range.

20130922-110515.jpg

My skin is usually pretty good but it only makes sense that as I’ve been experimenting with different makeup I should probably give it a good clean.

I did make one mistake though, and probably a really crucial mistake.. I walked out of the shop, got home and realised that instead of cleanser I had bought the ‘polish – Pore Unclogging Face Scrub’ which is only used twice a week. I decided to go to my favourite cheapy store Kmart and picked up a cleanser which I definitely need to change, and soon. I bought a cleanser called ‘botanics of australia’ with a lower case a on Australia. That should have been my first sign. I am pretty sure it doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t smell like anything either.

I have the toner as well, I know it sounds weird but I love seeing the grease that comes out of my face when I use the toner. I’m sure I’m not the only one that gets that weird feeling of satisfaction. I put a good amount on some cotton pads and stay away from my eyes.
I’ve been told I have combination skin. Some times it’s super oily but I don’t get too many pimples unless I eat a lot of junk. I have been desperately trying not to junk it up and I have been good. I never eat take out food, my weakness is chocolate and muesli bars. I digress.. So after I use my toner I immediately use moisturiser.

I don’t know about you but I feel like there are a lot of steps to clean your skin. I only do this in the morning, but should I be doing it at night as well?

Sometimes I think being a girl is hard, but I love it all the same.

APOCALIPS (my first ever review!)

22 Sep
Hello, good evening, good morning!

I didn’t mention in my first post but I thought I would also throw in some reviews to my blog, and for my first ever review I thought I would do what I consider to be one of my favourite new products out on the shelves.

Apocalips

a-poc-a-lypse
Noun
1. The complete final destruction of the world, esp. as described in the biblical book of Revelation.
2. An event involving destruction or damage on an awesome or catastrophic scale.

I love a good play on words, and I’m not not saying that it’s not true – but I don’t think this will be the last lip product I will ever use.

I say this but, you know what? I actually kind of love the Apocalips – Lip Lacquer. I don’t know what constitutes a good lacquer but it’s not super sticky like some and it smells pretty awesome!

I have the colour “101 – Celestial” which is a gorgeous blush pink colour – from what I can tell, on my skin any way, pinks can make me look a little strange because I have a naturally tanned face and my lips are already a reddish colour so anything lighter makes me look quite washed out. This doesn’t though, it gives them an almost natural look – even James (that’s my fiancé) likes it (and as much as I love him, he’s not really the makeup noticing type).

I bought this with some birthday money I received a little while ago and also managed to grab a couple of eye liners which I want to experiment with. I love a good haul – maybe that is something I can do in the future? A bit of a haul post. I do like shopping, but being a poor student I either need a really good reason or to have come into some money – so maybe that won’t happen until my next birthday – or maybe when I get married.

Anyway, before I manage to sidetrack myself even more, I really really love Rimmel for bringing this out and one day, I will buy more colours – unless they unapocalypse and bring out something even better. It’s bound to happen.
