I know.. I’m sorry.. But look! Pretty things!

5 Dec
Hello hello!

I hope you all still love me even though I’ve been a horrible blogger

Life has been pretty crazy this last month with Perth, moving, unpacking, house stuff, wedding, work etc etc. The good news is, after our trip to ikea this coming weekend, things should hopefully settle down.

There are all types of things going on in my personal life that have been taking me on some seriously crazy emotional roller coasters. Saying that, I am very proud of how I have handled it. I definitely would not have been able to do it without the support of my absolutely 100% amazing fiancรฉ and all my work friends and family. I say work friends, but they’re more than that. They are the only friends I have now and I’m happy to have them ๐Ÿ™‚ okay, gross, I know.. Time for pretty things.

As you are aware from my last post and thanks to the selling skills of the Mecca store, I purchased Stilla’s ‘In the light’ palette of gorgeous neutral, sometimes shimmery, eyeshadows. (Ps. The book is also really interesting, FYI)

20131205-215253.jpg

It was $60 well spent. Every colour is gorgeous. I seem to be reaching for a couple more than others.

20131205-215716.jpg

Night Sky could possibly be my most favourite eyeshadow colour in the history of ever. Except this one colour I had and lost a couple of months ago (RIP The perfect burgundy eyeshadow). Night Sky has a gorgeous shimmer through it and is perfect for the outer corner of my eyelids. It is perfect for making a stunning smokey eye look with its silvery grey colour.

20131205-220219.jpg

Luster is as the name suggests. It is almost khaki brown in the pot but as soon as it glides effortlessly onto my skin it turns a beautiful brown with gold under notes and gold shimmer. Also great for the crease and outer corner. It starts from something almost transparent but with a few swipes is quite opaque. I also like to use just a swipe across my whole lid when it is one of my rushed kind of days with a few extra brushes in the corner and crease to add depth.

Bare and Bliss haven’t really been touched yet because I’m not quite sure how I should use them with my skin. Bare looks like it could be a good base colour or possibly something to highlight the inner corners of your eyes but I’m just not comfortable with it yet.

I also use Kitten as a highlighter for my brow bone, down my nose and on my Cupid’s bow. It is really very subtle when just a little bit is used.

Does anyone else have this pallet? What is your favourite colour combination?

Talk soon. Pinky swear.

Perth Kit and Mecca haul (and Elizabeth’s Bookstore)

5 Nov
Hello hello!

Last Friday James and I picked up our bags after having a somewhat eventful week of shifting house, illness, back problems and Chinese seafood buffets to fly over to the wonderful city of Perth.

Perth is stunning with green trees, blue water, white sand and crazy expensive tasty food. The city is like something from the 90’s.. But in a good way.

20131105-213154.jpg

Today James and I went into the city to have a bit of a wander. On Friday when we arrived James was so so sick and he has been recovering since. So today we got to have a stroll and a shop.

After what felt like a lifetime spent in Quality Comics, we wandered into Elizabeth’s Bookstore. This is a second hand book shop with a gigantic range of books. As soon as I walked in, this book was spotted.

20131105-210007.jpg

I’m a big Julia Child fan. After watching Julie and Julia however many years ago, I rediscovered Julia Child. She was an amazing cook who had skills not dissimilar to myself and became who she is today. She had strong determination and a heart of gold, she is a role model for me. I have all her cooking shows at home and am waiting for the day when I can afford the legendary cook books. I geeked out a little when I saw it.

Next was our trip to Kit Makeup. This was a random find. We were trying to navigate our way out of a small shopping mall and I noticed the bright colours of the Kit store. In Melbourne, I think we have Kit, but only in Myer. I’m thinking I may need to have a good look once I’m back.

20131105-210628.jpg

20131105-210643.jpg

I don’t know if you have ever smelt Soap & Glory’s ‘The Breakfast Scrub’ but it is like a mapley heaven. It is possible that the thought of eating this scrub came to mind. It makes me crave pancakes just thinking about it.

I also picked up Soap & Glory’s ‘Hand Food’. I tested this while I waited for James to come out of EB Games. It claims to be non-greasy and I fully agree. It feels like water when you put it on and rubs in easily. My hands soaked it up and felt so soft afterwards. This little bottle was only $5.95 and was a total bargain. I might picked up their antiseptic next time.

Onwards through the alleys of Perth and then down Hay street, I spotted Mecca Cosmetics. I couldn’t find a lip scrub at Kit and was told Mecca was the place to go. And so I did..

20131105-212207.jpg

20131105-212219.jpg

First I picked up the lip scrub which I’m hoping to try tomorrow and then I picked up Stilla’s ‘In The Light’ pallet. It consists of mainly shimmery natural colours and their famous ‘Kitten’ colour which I am excited to use. Also, I’m really looking forward to the Night Sky shade as well. I love this pallet already and I haven’t even dipped my brush into it.

So that was all for today. I had some op shop bargains yesterday but for now, I am completely exhausted.

Good night!

My style my way.. A thought.

24 Oct
Hello hello,

I have never really been aware of what being fashionable was until these last few years. Mainly in these last 6 months I have been trying dot really define what being fashionable meant. People keep commenting that I have been changing in the way I wear my clothes, makeup, jewellery and hair.

I made a conscious decision when I turned 22 that it was time to mature my wardrobe a little bit more, to match in with me and my lifestyle. I am quite a colourful person (both in personality and wardrobe), so I have kept a pop of colour but I wear a lot more pastels, blush pinks and marooney colours. I also noticed I am starting a fair collection of greens and reds as well.

I think I have finally defined what fashion is, for me anyway.. It is basically style. It’s about keeping up to date, not with what is trending, but with yourself. My tastes have changed, matured and my style has moved with it. I’m at a stage in my life where I don’t feel the need to please everyone around me. I want to feel happy within myself and I want to be comfortable in my own skin.

I love makeup and clothes not because they are what girls are expected to love, but because I enjoy how they make me feel. I like to add a little bit of extra colour or to feel a little bit fancier. The world is always so serious and people so negative and I think that if I can enhance my own mood by adding some sparkle to myself then that is okay by me.

I love learning from all the amazing people out there what suits who and what colour goes where but I take them as a guide and if need, alter it to how I like it,

It is important to take pride in yourself and to not be afraid to try new things and new ideas. What is important to you?

My every day makeup

7 Oct
Hello hello!

After the excitement of yesterday I’ve come back down to more steady ground. Kind of. It’s a bit of a mess trying to get this all finalised. I guess it’s not just like we are buying a pair of shoes. It’s a little but bigger than that.

I thought I would share my everyday makeup routine with you all because I love seeing everyone else do their stuff. As I’m still very novice to all of this, I don’t actually have any brushes or fancy tools. I have my fingers and toilet paper to clean up any of the messes. I am going to do a but of research into brushes and see what I can afford ๐Ÿ™‚

Every morning I shower, use my Olay cleanser that I mentioned in an . I tone with my Nateo Young toner and moisturise with My tinted SPF15 Dove moisturiser. I don’t use concealer or foundation unless I am going somewhere a bit special – the tint in the moisturiser evens out my skin tone enough and helps dull my redness. Once all that slightly boring stuff is done I get onto the makeup.

I find that greens and browns and colours on the darker side of the spectrum work best with my skin tone. I found this little cheeky pallet for $3 from a cheapy shop when I was in desperate need of something a bit new. I’m not super picky when it comes to brand, as long as it does what it is supposed to, that is my main priority.

20131007-175958.jpg
So I generally start off with number 1 on this pallet which is an army green sort of colour in the outer corner of my lid. I usually use my index finger to work it into the crease.
Then I get number 2 and work it in the middle third of my lid. I blend it in with the outer corner.
Once it move onto number three a wipe it across my eye from the inner corner to just before the end of the outer corner.
Last, I use number 4 right in the inner part of my eye so it gets a little bit of gold on the top and under my eye. I use my pinky finger for this one.

After I do my eyeshadow I go onto the liquid eyeliner. The skill in which I recently mastered! Yay! If I can get it super thin on my upper lash line, that is how it stays. If I happen to flinch and my brush moves a little then my line is a bit thicker. Today it was a little thicker, I had a super crazy urge to sneeze.

20131007-180754.jpg
Once I’m happy with my liquid eyeliner I move onto pencil liner. Once upon a time I would just use black eyeshadow on my lower water line but I moved on from that stage of my life. Also, it’s kind of hard to do the upper water line with powder. I am also at a stage where I like to only line a third of my lower water line. So that is my next step…

20131007-182257.jpg
I line the lower water line about a third of the way across and also just under the water line. Once I do that I smudge the liner a little bit with my ring finger. I line the upper water line the whole way across.

So the process is nearly over. I already have quite long eye lashes but I like to define them a little. I don’t curl or anything, I just whack a little bit of mascara on. One thing I do with mascara is that I start right from the base of my lash, it fills in any of the gaps my liner missed.

20131007-183058.jpg
Once this is all done I add a little bit of 5 from the eyeshadow pallet underneath my eyebrow, down the middle of my nose and the little bit in the middle of my upper lip. I don’t do this every day though, maybe once or twice a week.
My finishing touch is my new favorite gloss, Apocalips in Celestial. It is such a pretty colour.

20131007-183658.jpg

So that is it! It takes me around 5 minutes to do this in the morning before work or uni. I find that by applying my moisturiser all over my face and finishing on my eyes, it works almost like a base. It doesn’t crease or fade that much ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay, so that is it for today.

I totally forgot to add the final look on me. Oops! Lucky I don’t have a million followers who would notice ๐Ÿ™‚

Can I do orange?

30 Sep
Hello hello!

Today whilst I walked around the tempting beauty isles I pondered the question as to whether I could wear orange?

I don’t have orange clothes, nor do I have orange shoes. I have an eye shadow that is more a peach than it is orange yet orange is one of my favourite colours.

What dictates someone being able to wear orange? I’m not sure. I spotted a gorgeous lipstick by innoxa (who I only discovered today) in Tangerine for $14.95 and then noticed a shelve over you could get the lipstick and matching nail polish for $14.95 together.

Innoxa

Go priceline! So I jumped. Why not?

20131001-190652.jpg

Do I look cross eyed in this photo?

What do you think? I’m not sure I could pull it off as an every day look but definitely an out in the sun type look.

Are there any shades of orange you think I should try? Help me!

I finally mastered eyeliner

23 Sep
Hello hello!

Okay, so maybe I didn’t fully master all that is eyeliner but I managed to put one thin line of liquid eyeliner on top of my lid.

It doesn’t sound like much, but trust me when I say it’s been a long time coming for me. I’m not naturally that coordinated and my eyes constantly jerk around like the little annoying jerks they are.

I tried with my eye closed, pulled out on the edges, I even tried the ‘no fear’ approach of just one solid line but I just couldn’t make the damn thing work.

So after watching enough of the ladies on YouTube put on their eyeliner I noticed that their eye was still slightly open. “That’s rediculous” I said to myself “you can’t possibly put eyeliner on the top of your lid with your eye open!” So why does EVERYONE do it?

So I experimented.. And look at that thin lined sucker.

20130925-084235.jpg

I feel like I need a first place ribbon. Or at least multiple good try ribbons for my efforts previously.

Next on the I will master list will have to be my eye brows. They are quite unruly and thick and I don’t particularly like them all that much, but maybe if I could master eye brown pencil, I might like them that little bit more.

Just one more look at my eyes!

20130925-084243.jpg

And yes, I have squinty photo eye disease. I don’t know why.

My favourite ladies

23 Sep
Hello hello!

Currently I am sitting in the silent study area of my university library and for some reason I’m listening to Macy Gray. It is, in my opinion, the best place on university grounds to think. So,in my thinking-ness (I promise I actually learn here..) I felt like sharing a few of my beauty guru favourites.

On my ever evolving journey to beauty guru-ness, I turn to these wonderful ladies to learn the tricks, secrets and gain an insight into their product knowledge. Also, you will notice they are all on YouTube. I find YouTube 100% addicting. I quit Facebook a while ago and moved my addiction to constructive social media like YouTube and Pinterest where I actually learn stuff!

Makeup Gurus

Zoella is an adorable Brit who makes me quite happy to watch! Her makeup looks are very achievable and very natural. Also, her hair – I wish my hair was that pretty!

Sprinkleofglitter.. There is something about these lovely British folk that I’m totally in love with. They’re unknowingly hilarious and have some of the best taste in makeup. She’s bright and colourful and her little girl is so damn cute!

Ilovemakeup – these guys are new to the game and I’m already obsessed. Not only do they have dailygrace but they have awesome new tips and tricks and great ways of showing them.

These are only a couple of the many people I use for inspiration but they are my main three ๐Ÿ™‚

Who inspires you? I’m always looking for new people to beauty stalk.

APOCALIPS (my first ever review!)

22 Sep
Hello, good evening, good morning!

I didn’t mention in my first post but I thought I would also throw in some reviews to my blog, and for my first ever review I thought I would do what I consider to be one of my favourite new products out on the shelves.

Apocalips

a-poc-a-lypse
Noun
1. The complete final destruction of the world, esp. as described in the biblical book of Revelation.
2. An event involving destruction or damage on an awesome or catastrophic scale.

I love a good play on words, and I’m not not saying that it’s not true – but I don’t think this will be the last lip product I will ever use.

I say this but, you know what? I actually kind of love the Apocalips – Lip Lacquer. I don’t know what constitutes a good lacquer but it’s not super sticky like some and it smells pretty awesome!

I have the colour “101 – Celestial” which is a gorgeous blush pink colour – from what I can tell, on my skin any way, pinks can make me look a little strange because I have a naturally tanned face and my lips are already a reddish colour so anything lighter makes me look quite washed out. This doesn’t though, it gives them an almost natural look – even James (that’s my fiancรฉ) likes it (and as much as I love him, he’s not really the makeup noticing type).

I bought this with some birthday money I received a little while ago and also managed to grab a couple of eye liners which I want to experiment with. I love a good haul – maybe that is something I can do in the future? A bit of a haul post. I do like shopping, but being a poor student I either need a really good reason or to have come into some money – so maybe that won’t happen until my next birthday – or maybe when I get married.

Anyway, before I manage to sidetrack myself even more, I really really love Rimmel for bringing this out and one day, I will buy more colours – unless they unapocalypse and bring out something even better. It’s bound to happen.

Love Matilde xx

Welcome to me!

21 Sep
Hello blogging world!

I thought as my first post I would explain who I am and what I will hopefully be blogging about!

I am very beginner when it comes to make up, make up techniques and most things beauty related. I’m probably not as beginner as a 5 year old as I do know what most things do and I generally know how to use them but I am by no means a beauty guru like some that you see on YouTube or on other blogs.

I work 3 days a week and have recently started university doing a Bachelor of Strategic Communication (basically, I want to get into advertising and/or marketing and/or PR). I am also recently engaged, about to buy a house and slightly broke.

I love makeup and girly things and I wanted to write about them. So here I am!

I want to learn the tricks of beauty and become somewhat of a guru like all the lovely people you see online, so feel free to join in my journey ๐Ÿ™‚
